Our Experience with the Mercedes EQS 580 4-matic

We opted for a Mercedes EQS 580 4-matic in 2022, which has significantly improved our daily driving experience. This vehicle offers a quiet and smooth ride, making it an excellent choice for long trips and urban driving. It comfortably replaced our older Mercedes S-class sedan. During a test drive of a Tesla Model S, we found it to be less inviting due to its lack of comfort, quietness, and subtle features compared to the Mercedes.

Considering an All-Electric Vehicle: Cadillac Lyriq and Genesis GV80

We are in the market for a replacement to our two-year-old Lexus hybrid SUV. Among the contenders, Cadillac's Lyriq stands out due to its luxurious interior and quieter performance. We have high expectations for the upcoming Genesis GV80, particularly if it lives up to its ICE version. Despite test-driving the all-electric Genesis GV70, we found it too cramped for our needs. The Lyriq offers a superior experience, with its quietness and luxury surpassing that of any Tesla. We have been very satisfied with our previous Toyota vehicles, but they are lagging behind in the electric vehicle space.

Leveraging personal experience, I am here to share the benefits of owning a non-Tesla EV. My 2014 BMW i3 BEV is a great example of a reliable and cost-effective alternative. Despite a range of around 83 city miles and 69 highway miles, this car has met my daily commute needs perfectly. The daily driving range of 40 miles is sufficient, and I have experienced almost no maintenance issues. Replacement items such as the 12-volt battery, key fob battery, and front brake wear sensor are the only maintenance-related tasks performed. Tires were replaced due to a road hazard, but overall, the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the BMW i3 have been remarkable.

The i3 is not only affordable, costing only $17,000 when purchased used from Carvana, but it also comes well-equipped with features like leather seats, navigation, cameras, parking sensors, and a Harmon Kardon sound system. While the range is limited, it is perfectly suitable for my needs without spending a fortune on a vehicle. A single charge from a half charge to a full charge on a level 2 public charger costs about $1.25 and takes around an hour.
