Compared to wild hens who lay about seven eggs per year, hybrid hens can lay over 350 eggs per year under industrial conditions. This excessive production leads to significant waste and resource depletion. The manure produced in such facilities often leads to environmental pollution, with the waste falling from cages above to those below, creating a hazardous living environment.

The end of life for egg-laying hens is often equally grim. These chickens are force-fed hormones and chemicals to maximize egg production, and their bodies are pushed to their limits.
