Unwavering Bravery: My Feline Heroes
Bravery can come in many forms, and for cat lovers like me, it's not often that we see such gallantry on display. My current cat, while undoubtedly brave, finds it difficult to articulate her feats. So, I'll take this opportunity to share with you the stories of two remarkable felines – a present day brave cat and my late, courageous pet, Siren.
My Brave Feline Companion
Let me introduce you to my current cat, who embodies quiet yet notable bravery. Just take a look at the picture above. She stands on the porch, seemingly ignoring me, but take this with a grain of salt – she's earned her reputation for fearlessness over the years. She's not a show-off, but her stealth and grace are a testament to her bravery.
When I come home, the porch is often left with remnants of her exploits: half-dead snakes, disheveled squirrels, and even a field mouse or two. She's tackled much larger opponents – the neighborhood cats, for instance, who once found her temperamental nature an imposing challenge.
But the highlight of her bravery was her nonchalance towards the vacuum cleaner. While the rest of the household scatters or runs for cover, she sits calmly on the back of the couch, a queen in her own kingdom. Likewise, she has shown no fear when confronted by the vacuum, sitting her regal posture and denying her fears.
Don't be fooled by her reserved demeanor; my current cat is a warrior in her own right, await further tales of her bravery.
Bravery personified: Siren
Now, let's delve into the story of my former cat, Siren. She was a true fighter, renowned for her unyielding courage and unflinching bravery. Introducing Siren:
This 13lb feline ball of knives was fearless. No matter the situation, Siren would not back down. She didn't seek out fights, but if she didn't want you around, she made it abundantly clear. She took on three stray cats at once and emerged victorious, earning her reputation as a hard fighter. She not only faced our own large cat, but also a rottweiler from the neighborhood.
One day, in my backyard, I witnessed Siren engaging with a rottweiler. The dog growled at her, but Siren hissed back. When the dog attempted to pin her, she managed to turn the tables, wrapping her front paws around the dog's face and deliver powerful kicks to its throat. She even tracked down baby foxes and a small raccoon – though catching them was a different story. She even stalked turkeys, though never directly observed catching one.
As she aged, Siren's valiant heart did not waver, but eventually, age caught up with her. Despite the severe urinary tract infection, she put up a fierce fight, causing major trouble even during euthanasia. The vet and staff faced a formidable challenge, with one assistant needing medical attention due to her deep lacerations on the wrist, proving Siren's bravery extended to the very end.
Bravery and Enduring Inspiration
These tales of my cats embody the unyielding spirit and courage that their owners should cherish. Both my current and the late Siren inspire me with their bravery, teaching me not to shy away from challenges and always stand firm, regardless of the odds.
If we can draw inspiration from these brave felines and adopt their courage in our daily lives, perhaps we can all become more resilient, just like they were until their last breath. Remember, in the face of adversity, being brave doesn't mean you have to show fearlessness or aggression, it means standing up for what is right and never backing down. That's the true spirit of bravery.
