The Most Delicious Lobster Dishes I’ve Ever Tasted

I must admit that I'm no big fan of lobster; I far prefer langoustine. That said, the best lobster dish I’ve had by far was a lobster salad at The Waterside Inn. Sadly, they don’t seem to have it on the menu at the moment.

Lobster Set Dinners and Beyond

Lobster set dinners on the menu at St. Ann’s Church Basement Restaurant in Prince Edward Island are a culinary highlight. Expect to wait an hour in the queue, but it's worth it. The good service and yummy desserts, particularly the rhubarb pie, make it all the more enjoyable. Even folks from the USA fly in just to enjoy the famous lobster dinners. They walk out with full bellies, carrying take-away doggy bags with the dessert leftovers since the main dishes are too filling.

It seems to be a popular destination for food enthusiasts, as the place can get quite crowded. However, the restaurant is planning to close down after 50 years, which brings an end to this incredible culinary tradition.

Simple, Perfectly Steamed Lobster

I am a huge fan of simple steamed new shell shedder lobster. No butter or lemon is needed for maximum enjoyment. If you want something a bit more fancy, I love the classic Lobster Newberg. My recipe is much simpler than most versions; it’s just sautéed lobster meat mixed with a basic white sauce. Here's the recipe: 2 tablespoons of flour 2 tablespoons of butter 1 cup of milk A pinch of nutmeg, cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper to taste On medium heat in a double boiler, let it cook for several hours to let the flavors meld and reach maximum deliciousness!

Grilled Lobster with a Twist

Much as I appreciate plain steamed lobster, my favorite twist is a simple grilled lobster with zest. I had the best version of this at a beachside shack on Lombok. The dish was seasoned merely with lime juice and a dash of sambal. This combination creates a perfect blend of citrus and spicy notes that elevate the lobster to new heights.

Simple yet Almost Perfect Lobster Dish

I agree with John Burgess on the art of lobster preparation. The best lobster dish I've ever had was cooked and served up in that simple manner at a tiny family-run restaurant on the harbour side of the beautiful fishing village of Crail in Scotland. The lobster was fresh off the family's fishing boat, caught just less than an hour earlier. It was served whole with a pot of melted butter, salt, and black pepper – nothing else. It’s a true testament to the freshness and quality of the ingredients used.

There is no need for flashy presentations when the ingredients are this fresh. The photo of the harbour where the restaurant was located shows the wooden hut in the centre-right. There were a few more tables out when I was there, creating a charming and cozy atmosphere.

Conclusion and Advice

The best lobster dishes are often the ones that strike a perfect balance between simplicity and complexity. Whether you prefer a classic Lobster Newberg or a grilled lobster with a daring kick of sambal, the key is always fresh and well-prepared ingredients. Next time you have an opportunity to try a lobster dish, don’t hesitate; it will undoubtedly be a flavor adventure worth remembering.
