The Last Slice of Toast: Grain-Free Living and Health Benefits

The Last Slice of Toast: Grain-Free Living and Health Benefits

Have you ever wondered what was on the last slice of toast you ate? For many, it's simply a mundane routine. However, for some, like me, it can be a moment of reflection. Recently, I indulged in a simple yet unique toast preparation that reminded me of why I've embraced a grain-free lifestyle.

Egg Butter — A Flavorful Delight

Egg Butter is one of my occasional breakfast favorites because it is just so yummy. It's a simple yet delicious combination of eggs and butter with a twist of dill. I sandwich the egg butter between slices of toast, adding a touch of Desi ghee and a little cream. It's a delightful way to kickstart my day.

My mother once asked if I wanted butter in my scrambled eggs, and I politely declined. My sister was curious, asking why I preferred eggs on toast. I explained that to me, it was the ideal way to enjoy my eggs. Egg Butter, to me, is a celebration of the yolk and its rich flavors enhanced by the toasted bread.

Exploring Traditional Flavors: Poppyseed Bagels

Bagels are another staple in my breakfast routine, particularly those rich, traditional flavors found in Brooklyn from the early 1960s. A poppyseed bagel, lightly buttered and topped with good veggie cream cheese, is a delightful treat. The flavor is robust and satisfying, reminiscent of my upbringing.

The Journey to Grain-Free Living

Recently, I made a significant change in my diet. I swore off all grains, a decision that was motivated by a deeper understanding of how grains are grown and processed. The human body and even livestock suffer from the ill effects of modified grains. My journey began with a pledge to eliminate wheat and its "cousins" from my diet. It was a challenging transition at first, but over time, it became second nature.

I no longer see these foods as "food." Instead, they've become "stuff" that fills the store shelves. My body has become sensitive to even the slightest deviation from my grain-free diet. I now have no urge to eat any form of wheat-based products, and my body reacts strongly when I do. This is especially true for items like gravy or breaded foods that contain these grains.

The benefits of a grain-free lifestyle have been immense. I am 73 years old and in excellent health. People are often astonished when they learn this news. I do not consume any pharmaceuticals, and beef from grass-fed cows is a mainstay of my diet. I maintain a high level of physical and mental activity, and my mind is very sharp, thanks to sufficient sleep.

My body is more resilient than ever. I do not have any problems with weight gain or loss. I rarely fall ill, and when I do, I recover quickly. Injuries heal rapidly with minimal scarring, which is not something that "supposedly" happens at my age. The proof is in the pudding (or should I say, the toast) — a grain-free lifestyle has been transformative for me.

My journey is not just a personal one but also an exploration of how we can live healthier, happier lives by making informed choices. Change is not always easy, but the rewards are unmistakably beneficial.
