The Journey of My Last Drink: From Homemade Hot Chocolate to Herbal Wonders

Each day, each moment, is punctuated by the consumption of different liquids. Some are comforting and familiar, while others are novel and intriguing. In this article, we explore the diverse and unique journey of drinks in a person's daily life. This day, for instance, started with a homemade hot chocolate and ended with a slurp of Chartreuse. Here’s the story behind each.

1. Homemade Hot Chocolate (First Drink of the Day)

Today, I made myself a steaming cup of homemade hot chocolate milk, sprinkled with a little caffeine. It was the perfect start to the day, especially after a lazy morning of coffee. The addition of carbonated water adds a refreshing kick, making it feel more like a treat.

Back in Germany, where I am from, a swig of carbonated water is a common part of the daily routine. This drink not only quenches thirst but also provides a momentary burst of fizz, along with a touch of caffeine to jumpstart the day.

2. Filter Coffee with Milk (Breakfast Drink)

Moments later, I settled into my breakfast routine with a filter coffee. This particular brew has a coffee concentration per milliliter of about 6-7 American filter coffees. For a seasoned coffee lover, this is a strong start to the day. I also enjoy adding a couple of tea biscuits and a piece of fruit.

3. Grower's Apple Cider Cherry Flavored (Refresher "

As the day progresses, my hydration routine shifts. I often reach for a drink that is not just water or coffee, but something with a strong flavor. A grown’s Apple Cider cherry flavor is my go-to choice for a quick refresher. It’s particularly refreshing on a hot day, making my throat feel less sticky.

4. Invention of a New Drink Mix (Hydration in Texas)

Moving to Texas has led me to develop a new drinking habit. The heat here is relentless, and staying hydrated requires more than just regular water. I invented a concoction of mostly water, a couple of fruit juices, and a bit of an artificially sweetened "drink enhancer." I usually mix this in quart batches and consume 2-3 quarts a day on top of other beverages.

The recipe for this mixture is as follows:

23 oz of ice water 1 oz of lime juice 8 oz of 100% juice cranberry cocktail A squirt of a sugar-free flavoring syrup (usually orange or tangerine)

This drink not only hydrates but also provides a delightful flavor. When I first moved to Texas, I found it challenging to stay hydrated due to the heat. This mixture made it easier for me to drink fluids while enjoying a delicious taste.

5. Drinking Thyme from the Garden (Herbal Beverage)

Today, I indulged in a homemade thyme drink from my garden. Thyme is known for its flavor, but some believe it has medicinal properties. Despite the internet’s claims, there is no scientific evidence to support these claims. However, it still tastes like regular thyme and keeps me hydrated.

6. Hurrah for Herbal Wonders: Chartreuse (Closing Drink)

The thirst eventually led me to a glass of Chartreuse. The green variety, not the yellow, offers a stronger flavor due to the 129 other herbs used in the production. It’s a complex and intriguing drink that I find surprisingly enjoyable.

People may claim what they like about the decay of Christianity, but the religious system that produced green Chartreuse can never really die. You have to survive Chartreuse to fully understand the joke. A slurp of Chartreuse is a unique and adventurous way to end my day.

Throughout the day, I’ve quenched my thirst with a variety of drinks, from familiar hot chocolates and coffee to my homemade concoction and a touch of Chartreuse. Each drink has its unique place in my daily routine, reflecting different moods and moments.
