Pizza Nights: Finding Balance in a Paleo Diet

Embracing Pizza Nights in a Paleo Diet

Whether or not I want it, my grandson is always sure to order pizza when he comes home after a week away from home in the army. This pizza night phenomenon isn't unique to my household. Thursdays were terrible for pizza at the fraternity house during my college days, with my group of friends becoming regulars at the original Regina’s Pizza in the north end. Recently, my local HEB started featuring their in-store made pizza deals on Wednesday nights, making a giant pepperoni pizza only $5. However, since I began following a paleo diet, I rarely indulge in pizza. When I do, it's usually “meatza” and I make it occasionally on a Friday or Monday night.

The Importance of a Pizza Night: A Cheat Day

Pizza nights play a significant role in maintaining a balanced lifestyle. While I care deeply about my health, I prioritize eating healthy and making mindful choices. I avoid soft drinks, boxed juices, refined flour, and refined sugar. I strive for a well-balanced diet, focusing on vegetables, fruits, and limiting red meat. I drink plenty of water and try to eat every 3 hours. Additionally, I exercise three times a week. In this context, trying to maintain a consistently healthy lifestyle, it's crucial to have a cheat day.

Life is short, and eating pizza every now and then doesn't hurt as long as I can keep a balance. So, pizza night has become an important part of my Sunday routine.

My Sunday Subroutine: A Day Off from the Norm

Sunday is not just about pizza; it's a sabbatical day for me. On Sundays, I sleep all day, receive calls only from my mother, and stay in. I typically relax by watching anime, reading a book, watching TV series, and of course, eating pizza. I also find time to write on Quora. I value Sundays as a day to escape the normal routine and focus on myself.

Other Pizza Nights: Deals and Celebrations

While Sunday is dedicated to me, my pizza nights aren't confined to just one night of the week. In other situations, pizza nights can vary. My grandson usually orders pizza on Tuesday nights for a 2-for-1 deal. Sometimes, I celebrate with San Vito every Friday night, and now that I live in Lancaster, PA, every Friday night can now be considered a “shitty pizza night.” These irregular pizza nights are an integral part of my routine and a way to enjoy a treat while maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

Encouraging a Balanced Life

It's important to embrace pizza nights within the context of a healthy lifestyle. Whether it's a Sunday, a Tuesday, a Friday, or even a special occasion, it's all about finding balance. I encourage everyone to treat themselves to a pizza night, as long as they can maintain a balanced diet and regular exercise routine.
