My Favourite Food That I Can Eat for Weeks

When it comes to choosing a favorite food that I can eat for weeks, the options are virtually endless. Whether it’s a rich and creamy cheese, a delicately sweet dessert, or the comforting flavors of a dish from my cultural roots, the choice can be as personal as the person answering the question. Let’s take a closer look at a few of these options and why they hold such a special place in my heart.

Cheese

Cheese, particularly a high-quality variety, remains one of my go-to options for any meal. There’s just something so indulgent and satisfying about it. As a commercial fisherman’s child, and now a commercial fisherman myself, I’ve had the opportunity to experience a wide variety of cheeses over the years, and I’ve never grown tired of them. Each one offers a unique flavor profile and texture, making it difficult to have a favorite, but they all have a special place in my heart.

Steamed Dungeness Crab

Speaking of the ocean, one of the only foods I’ve ever found that I do not get tired of is steamed Dungeness crab. As someone raised in a family of commercial fishermen, I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy these crustaceans for over five decades, and they remain unmatched. The sweet, succulent meat is a true delight, and it’s no surprise that commercial fishermen, with their understanding of the sea and its bounty, find this delicacy hard to replace.

Mashed Potatoes with Corn Mixed In

When it comes to comfort food, few things can beat a simple yet satisfying dish like mashed potatoes with corn mixed in. The combination of creamy potatoes and slightly sweet corn creates a flavor that is both comforting and delicious. This is a meal that I can imagine enjoying for weeks on end without ever getting tired of it. The simplicity of the ingredients and the richness of the flavors make it a true winner in my book.

Ice Cream

Who doesn’t love ice cream? I could easily live on ice cream indefinitely. The comfort and joy it brings are unparalleled, especially when paired with a cone or a cookie. It’s a treat that provides a sense of happiness and indulgence, making it the perfect choice for those moments when a little sweetness is just what you need.

Boars Head Oven-Roasted Chicken Sandwiches

For those who prefer a savory option, Boars Head oven-roasted chicken sandwiches are another favorite. The combination of crisp bread, juicy chicken, and the variety of condiments can make for a satisfying lunch or meal. I could eat these sandwiches every day for weeks without getting bored. And even though they pair well with classic options like bacon waffles, there’s something about just enjoying a good sandwich that never loses its appeal.

Biryani

While I’ve mentioned a few personal favorites, it’s important to acknowledge the diversity of global cuisine. Biryani, a mixed rice dish originating among the Muslims of South Asia, is a dish that brings the perfect combination of spices, vegetables, rice, and meat (or without any meat and sometimes with eggs and potatoes). The fragrant, flavorful, and aromatic biryani is a staple in Indian households and a dish that can keep me going for weeks without growing tired of it.

Indian Cuisine: Dal Chawal

As someone from India, I have a particular bias towards Indian cuisine. One of the dishes that I could eat for weeks is ‘Dal Chawal’, a classic comfort food in my country. The dish consists of two main components: Dal and Chawal. Dal refers to lentils, which are typically cooked and prepared as a thick, flavorful stew. There are various types of lentils used in Indian cooking, including yellow lentils (moong dal), red lentils (masoor dal), and others. After boiling and tempering the lentils with spices like cumin, mustard seeds, turmeric, and garlic, they transform into a delicious and filling stew.
Chawal, which simply means rice, is prepared separately and served alongside the dal. Indian rice varieties like basmati rice are commonly used and are often cooked with care to ensure each grain is fluffy and separate. Accompaniments like pickles, papad (thin, crisp wafers), and yogurt are also served to complete the meal. The combination of rich lentils and fluffy rice is a true comfort for me and a testament to the versatility and depth of Indian cuisine.

While the default might vary based on one’s origin and cultural background, the joy of enjoying a favorite dish for long periods is universal. Whether it’s cheese, ice cream, or any of the other wonderful foods mentioned, the key is not just in the food itself, but in the enjoyment and appreciation it brings to your dining experience.
