Lessons Learned During Lockdown: Insights on Personal Growth and Community

Over the past few months, the lockdown period has presented several challenges, but it has also been a time of personal and communal growth. During this period, I have learned several valuable lessons that have reshaped my understanding of myself and my community.

The Loneliness of Solitude

Even though I am a textbook introvert, I have found that the lockdown has made my drive to work rather dreary. It is like being the only person out there in a zombie movie! This experience has made me realize the importance of human interaction and how it can either uplift or depress one's state of mind.

Irony of Working Conditions and Income Security

The lockdown has also highlighted the stark differences in working conditions and income security. While some fortunate individuals are able to work from home, others are not as lucky. I am grateful that my job allows me a fixed salary, while many are facing financial hardships by having to stay at home and sacrificing their income. This disparity has opened my eyes to the reality of current economic conditions and the challenges faced by many.

Reevaluating Job Roles and Life Priorities

Despite the initial reluctance to acknowledge it, I have realized that my job is more hectic than I thought. With the decision that banks must operate with only 50% of their staff during the lockdown, I have had the luxury to work on alternate days, and even work for half a day. This has provided me with the time to spend with my little girl, cook without time pressure, and even take care of household chores like doing laundry. This newfound balance has improved my overall well-being and strengthened my bond with my family.

The Impact of Lockdown on Mental Health

While staying at home and following routines may seem like a privilege, the lockdown has affected me and many others. Restrictions on personal freedom, devastating news about increasing fatalities, and the uncertainty of the future have all contributed to feelings of anxiety and fear. The ongoing global pandemic has highlighted the fragility of human existence, showing that even the smallest microbe can have an enormous impact.

The Human Duality of Selfishness and Unselfishness

Despite being inherently selfish, humans can also be deeply unselfish, particularly in times of crisis. We are willing to keep others away to secure our own basic needs and ensure the safety of our loved ones. At the same time, we strive to help others and meet their needs, especially those in critical professions like medical professionals and police officers. Our gratitude towards these individuals is endless.

Misconduct and Injustice During the Pandemic

Some individuals have revealed their true colors during the pandemic, spreading the virus intentionally and disregarding the welfare of others. This behavior is not only evil but also extremely inconsiderate. We must ensure that everyone follows the guidelines and precautions to keep ourselves and others safe.

Hope and Resiliency for the Future

Even in these tough times, I remain hopeful that things will improve. Hope and a strong will are the only things that can help us overcome this crisis. Let us all come together and support each other in these challenging times to ensure a brighter future for humanity.

It is vital to keep learning and adapting during these unprecedented times. By sharing our experiences and insights, we can inspire others and build a stronger community. We must continue to advocate for those who are struggling and work towards a more resilient and compassionate world.
