Healthy and Tasty Subway Sandwiches for Lunch and Dinner

Healthy and Tasty Subway Sandwiches for Lunch and Dinner

When it comes to fast food, Subway is a popular choice for many people. However, achieving a balance between taste and nutrition can be challenging. This article provides some insights into how you can enjoy healthy and delicious Subway sandwiches for both lunch and dinner without compromising on flavor or nutrition.

Choosing Healthy Toppings for Subway Sandwiches

Earlier this week, I visited a Subway near my new gym and decided to create a meal that is both healthy and delicious. Here are the choices I made:

Spinach Salad Lunch

For the sake of health and taste, the following ingredients made up my lunch:

Fresh vegetables of your choice Egg if available, or roasted chicken if not preferred Subway's sandwich sauce (an Italian dressing is a great option) Honey mustard instead of mayo if you can bear it Add Parmesan and Oregano for extra flavor

For a healthy alternative, you can also have peppermint tea, bottled water, or 1% milk if available. If you feel you need more, go back for one cookie or the yogurt parfait, but be mindful of the sugar content.

Evening Breads and Mikes (B.M.T.)

If it's evening and you're a fan of the B.M.T., I would highly recommend the 'Day' and 'Night' options:

For Day, choose a 6-inch Subway Melt, stuffed with Tuna, Parmesan, Oregano, standard veggies, and standard sauces. Avoid mustards. Night B.M.T. is my favorite combination: Italian B.M.T., which features multiple layers of Italian bread, herbs, cheeses, and maybe a drizzle of honey mustard.

Why Subway Might Not Be as Healthy as You Think

Although Subway's sandwiches are a step up from many other fast food options, they are still worth a fair amount of sodium, which can be detrimental to health in the long run. Here are some points to keep in mind:

Many of Subway's ingredients are processed, which can be harmful to your health. If you're conscious about your sodium intake, always check the label and opt for whole foods when possible.

Individual Preferences and Flavor Choices

Every person has their own taste preferences. When I worked at Subway for over a year, I learned that the variety of choices is what makes it such a popular menu. Here are a few individual choices from co-workers and myself that you might enjoy:

Spicy Italian 6-inch Cheese

A personal favorite is the Spicy Italian 6-inch cheese sandwich, not toasted, with lettuce, peppers, onions, and just a bit of mayonnaise. It’s delicious.

Subway Club on Italian Herbs and Cheese

I also recommend the club sandwich made with Italian herbs and cheese and a touch of American cheese and honey mustard for an extra kick.

Ultimate Chicken Footlong

Another go-to for evenings is a footlong on whole wheat bread with oven-roasted chicken breast. I usually add bacon, swiss cheese, cooked mushrooms, lettuce, and tomato, topped with ranch dressing. It's a satisfying and flavorful meal!

Remember, making healthier choices can be fun and delicious. Experiment with different toppings and bread types to find your perfect balance. Whether you're looking for a quick lunch or a satisfying dinner, Subway sandwiches can be part of a balanced dietary plan when you make informed choices.
