Exploring the Flavors of Bengaluru: A Culinary Journey

Living in Bengaluru for a year provided me with an incredible culinary experience. The city is renowned not only for its technological innovations but also for its array of street food that is both affordable and delectable. Among the various dishes I enjoyed, Paddu stands out as one of the best foods I came across.

Best Street Food in Bengaluru

Bengaluru is a melting pot of flavors, and the street food scene here is truly a treat for the senses. From Bisi Bele Bath to Pani Puri and Masala Dosa, each dish brings a unique twist to the traditional flavors. I've compiled a list of some of my favorite street foods in the city:

Bisi Bele Bath

Bisi Bele Bath translates to 'hot lentil rice' in Kannada and is a wholesome meal that dates back to the Mysore Palace. Initially from Mysore, this dish has spread across the entire state of Karnataka. It is a digestive-friendly dish, often served as a part of a traditional South Indian meal. In Bengaluru, you can find its various versions, such as 'Sambhar Rice' and 'Bismilla Bath.'

Neer Dosa

In my first encounter with Neer Dosa, I was amazed by its delicate yet satisfying taste. This crêpe, made from a batter as thin as water, originates from the Tulu Nadu region and is a delicacy of Udupi-Mangalorean cuisine. Neer Dosa pairs wonderfully with non-vegetarian curries. During a visit to Bengaluru, I had the chance to enjoy Neer Dosa with Butter Chicken, which was a truly memorable experience.

Other Notable Street Foods

Adding to the list of favorites, Pani Puri and Masala Dosa offer delightful snacks. Pani Puri is a popular snack among locals and tourists, and I found it to be a perfect way to quench my thirst on a hot day. Masala Dosa, a staple in South Indian cuisine, is served with a range of chutneys and is a must-try street food in Bengaluru. Each bite is a testament to the culinary prowess of the city.

Imperio Restaurant’s Afghan Chicken

One of the culinary highlights is the Afgani Chicken at Imperio Restaurant in Whitefield. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, but the Afgani Chicken stands out for its rich and flavorful preparation. It is a perfect example of how traditional dishes can be elevated to a gourmet level.

Exploring the streets of Bengaluru is like embarking on a gastronomic adventure. From the bustling street food joints to high-end restaurants, each dish narrates a story of the city's diverse cultural tapestry. Whether you're seeking a hearty lunch or a light snack, Bengaluru has something for everyone.
