Living in the Greater Vancouver Area

Vancouver itself is quite compact, but the surrounding areas provide a mix of rural charm and urban amenities. A significant factor in choosing a location is the vast Agricultural Land Reserve Bank established by the Provincial government. This reserve prevents the construction of subdivisions and allows for smaller plots of agricultural land to be bought and lived on.

North Vancouver, just across the Lions Gate Bridge, offers a unique blend of rural and urban life. This area backs onto steep mountain sides covered in trees and teeming with wildlife. From the city, you can easily access natural trails and parks.

While Vancouver BC offers a wide range of living options, some individuals find Calgary a viable alternative. The cost of living in Calgary, particularly in terms of rent, gas, and entertainment, can be lower when flying back and forth as needed.

Locating in Coquitlam, Town Centre

I personally reside in the Town Centre of Coquitlam, which is a mere few minutes’ walk from the Skytrain station. This station takes about 45 minutes to get to downtown Vancouver, and you can access any shop within a 15-minute walk, including six or seven different grocery stores. North of my area, you find yourself in the natural embrace of mountains and trails. Lakes and forests abound in the vicinity. Continue a bit further, and you find yourself on top of the mountain, where a 130km hike can lead you to the next city, Whistler. We are so close to nature that it’s not uncommon to spot beavers, bats, coyotes, bears, deer, and many more animals walking around my home. Simultaneously, I am just a short walk away from malls and shops.
