Have you ever visited any part of Pakistan before? My last October trip to Gilgit-Baltistan was a journey that offered an incredibly rich experience, despite the challenges we faced. In this article, I will delve into my two-week exploration of this breathtaking region, sharing both the highlights and the hurdles.
Warm Welcome and Exceptional Guides
Our stay in Gilgit-Baltistan was a true testament to the warm welcome and hospitality that the people of Pakistan offer. The guides we had were exceptional, and we felt like royal guests from the very start. The locals were genuinely friendly, making us feel at ease in a foreign land.
Delicious Cuisine and Unforgettable Food Poisoning
The food in Gilgit-Baltistan was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip. The flavors and aromas were a delightful surprise, with dishes that tantalized our taste buds. However, a wave of food poisoning hit our entire group. I would like to clarify that we are all seasoned travelers with strong stomachs, and this was our first experience with such an issue. Despite the discomfort, we continued to appreciate the extraordinary culinary offerings.
Exemplary Highways and Hellish Roads
The main highways in Gilgit-Baltistan were outstanding, providing us with a comfortable journey through the scenic landscape. However, some of the other roads could be described as hellish, particularly for those who value smooth, safe travel. One memorable instance was the journey to Fairy Meadows, which, despite its bumpy start, ultimately rewarded us with breathtaking views.
Excellent Accommodations and Local Protests
We had the privilege of staying in some of the best hotels in the region, which were indeed excellent. However, due to health issues and local protests, we had to make unplanned changes to our itinerary, which meant staying in some other, perhaps less ideal, accommodations. While these were acceptable, we prefer to avoid such situations in the future.
Nature's Majesty and Unforgettable Scenery
The nature in Gilgit-Baltistan is nothing short of magnificent. The towering mountains, lush valleys, and pristine lakes created a visual feast for the eyes. The sense of awe and wonder that this natural beauty evokes is indescribable.

Despite the challenges we faced, I am deeply fond of Gilgit-Baltistan. The mixture of stunning natural beauty and the warmth of the local people left a lasting impression. I plan to return to Gilgit-Baltistan numerous times, albeit with a greater appreciation for the potential hurdles.
